G20 Summit: ‘Press enjoys absolute freedom in Jammu and Kashmir,’ says Manoj Sinha

New Delhi: Jammu and Kahsmir Lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha Tuesday said that the press in the union territory has “absolute freedom”.

Addressing a press conference following the third G20 Tourism Working Group meeting underway in Srinagar, Sinha said, “The Press enjoys absolute freedom in Jammu & Kashmir. More than 400 newspapers are published from here.”

He stressed that Jammu and Kashmir had become a “favourite destination for shooting films.” He said, “We hosted over 18 million tourists last year which was unparalleled since independence. After three decades, the new Film Policy, modern infrastructure and ease of doing business have made Jammu & Kashmir a favourite destination for shooting films.”

Today was the second day of the 3-day G20 Tourism Working Group in Kashmir. The meeting holds utter significance since such a global event is taking place in Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370.

Earleir in the day, Sinha said, “Jammu and Kashmir has always been the center of knowledge, wisdom and breathtaking landscape. For 30 years this land of peacefulness had to suffer from state-sponsored terrorism by our neighbouring country.”

“However, PM Modi brought development schemes that empowered the state. Jammu and Kashmir is now open to a new era that is open to growth, peace and development. Today J&K stands as one of the developed states in the country.”

Pak Accuses India Of “Abusing” G20 Presidency, Sinha Replies

On being asked on Pakistan’s accusation that India is “abusing” G20 presidency with Kashmir meet, Manoj Sinha replied, “G20 presidency is a matter of pride for us. The presence of UN representatives here indicates that the world wants India to host such events.”
