PIL demanding ‘President should inaugurate New Parliament Building’ files in Supreme Court

New Parliament Building: A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Supreme Court demanding orders that the newly built Parliament Building should be inaugurated bt President Droupadi Murmu. 

The petitioner also said that the Lok Sabha Secretariat violated the Constitution norm by not inviting the President of India to the ceremony.

Earlier, 20 Opposition parties announced to boycott inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament building on May 28 as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to dedicate the infrastructure by himself “completely sidelined” President Draupadi Murmu. 

Parties like, Congress, Trinamool Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal, and Janta Dal United are among the political side who announced to boycott of the ceremony. However, Navin Patnaik’s BJD, Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSR Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal gave their consent to attend the ceremony.  

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new Parliament Building on May 28.  

Earlier,  senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a tweet, demanded that the new Parliament building should be inaugurated by the President Of India and not by PM Modi. After Rahul’s demand, other opposition parties started demanding the same.
