He also added that most of the casualties were people who worked for the Russian private company, Wagner.

Russian occupation attempt failed in ongoing conflict, claims US

Kirby said that Russia's attempt to occupy the Donbas region had failed, and Russia has failed to occupy any other area strategically as well. He also stated that the Ukrainian authorities were not giving the casualty figures of their soldiers because they were the victims and not the aggressors. In contrast, a report released in November last year revealed that Ukrainian casualties were around 1 lakh.

US refutes Wagner's claims on Ongoing conflict

Kirby also rejected claims made by Wagner's leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin, that only 94 members of his group had been casualties. The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has been a topic of international concern, with several countries condemning Russia's actions. The conflict started in 2014, when Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine, leading to a pro-Russian insurgency in eastern Ukraine. The situation escalated, leading to a full-blown conflict between the two countries.
