Odisha Train Accident: ‘Not natural calamity but…,’ says Congress, slams Modi govt for ‘narcissistic’ behavior

New Delhi: Congress leader Pawan Khera on Sunday accused the Narendra Modi government of having the “know-it-all and negligent” attitude that led to the Odisha Train Accident took place on June 2, which left over 280 people dead.

“This is not a natural calamity. This is ‘man-made’ devastation caused by utter negligence, serious lapses in the system, incompetence, and a ‘narcissistic’ sense of ‘know it all’ attitude by the Modi government, clubbed with high decibel PR which exposed the hollowness at every level of railway governance,” said Senior leader Khera.

The Congress leader further raised a demand that Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw should resign from his post after the devastating collision of three trains at Bahanaga Bazar station in Odisha.

Sharad Pawar demand Railways Minister’s resignation

This adds to a demand of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar who on Saturday compared the tragic collision in Odisha on June 2 to an earlier train accident when Lal Bahadur Shashtri was the Railways Minister. Shashtri had resigned afterwards.

“When Lal Bahadur Shastri was a Railways Minister, an accident took place and it happened again. After that, Jawaharlal Nehru was against the decision of giving a resignation. But Shastri has said that it is my moral responsibility and resigned. The same incidence is being faced by the country. The politicians should take the possible
steps,” said the NCP chief while talking to media.

Odisha Train Accident: How did it happen?

The collision of three trains namely: Coromandel Express, Howrah Superfast Express and a goods train already parked at the Bahanaga Bazar station, is the India’s fifth deadliest accidents in its history, stated BBC.

There are no confirmation yet on which train derailed first but Railways Spokesperson Amitabh Sharma said that it was the Coromandel Express that was coming from Shalimar railway station in West Bengal, which lost control at first place.

The train hit the stationary goods train at the station. As per the media reports, the collosion affected the Howrah Superfast Express too that was passing by at the time of the accident.
