Amid ruckus in Parliament, these important Bills get approved

New Delhi: The drama between ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Opposition front INDIA still on in the Parliament and both the Houses are witnessing adjournments every other day. This has hampered the functioning of both the Houses badly.

However, amid this ruckus where Opposition kept asking for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to break his silence and address the Manipur violence in brief, which left many dead, thousands injured and even more of that, homeless.

The ethnic clash in Manipur between Kukis and Meiteis took an ugly turn with news coming up about sexual violence against women, attracting global embarassment. It has up the ante in the Parliament.

However, depsite the chaotic Parliament proceedings, the House managed to pass a few Bills with high significance in the field of forest, paper and cinema.

Three Major Bills That Were Passed

Forest (Conservation) Amendment Bill-2023

The Lok Sabha has given a green signal to the proposal to use exempt land within 100 km of the country’s borders from the interest of conservation laws. The Bill allows setting up of zoos, safaris and eco-tourism facilities in the forest areas.

The Forest (Conservation) Amendment Bill-2023 was introduced by Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav on Wednesday that passed without having a detailed discussion but the uproar by the Indian Opposition.

Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill, 2023

The Bill seeks to bring up amendments to rights given to the Central Broadcast Film Cetrificat (CBFC) under the Cinematograph Act, 1952, which lets the board to make cuts and censor the film.

There arises a question if the CBFC, the highest body to take the final decision, would have a its boss and if that would be the government itself. However, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur assured that the government will not have the role in it.

The Bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha on July 27.

Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill 2023

Yesterday, another Bill that was passed in Lok Sabha was Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill 2023. This Bill seeks to amend 42 laws administered by 19 ministries.

The Bill propoese to make amends in the Press and Registration of Books Act, 1867, Indian Post Office Act, 1923, The Copyright Act, 1957, The Indian Forest Act, 1927, the Public Liability Insurance Act, 1991, The Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, and the Information Technology Act, 2000 etc.
