New Delhi: Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal Thursday wrote to the Centre over the Manipur women video of sexual abuse, urging to make all efforts to stop the violence in the state.
“I am writing today to the Manipur CM and PM Modi to end the violence in Manipur and take action against the accused and police officials,” said Maliwal.
She stated, “I am unable to sleep after watching the video which has come from Manipur. The incident happened 2.5 months ago but no arrest has been made so far. I am ashamed that no one has been arrested. Central government is silent, PM has not made a single statement.”
Sought Permission to Visit Victims
Coming down heavily on the sexual violence against the two Manipuri women, DCW chief informed that she has aksed the Centre to allow her a visit to the victims to know about their ordeal. She said there might other women who were tortured during the violence whom the former wanted to meet.
Manipur Women Video Shows Men Groping Inappropriately
The DCW chief responded to a video where two women were stripped naked and paraded to a field where they were allegedly gang-raped. The horiffic video of the incident showed two naked women being forcefully taken with a crowd of at least a thousand men.

The two women were identified to belong to Kuki community who were subjected to sexual abuse after a woman from a particular community was allegedly assaulted sexually.
Govt asks Twitter To Take Down The Manipur Parade Video, Judiciary Intervenes
Taking note of the garve intensity of the video, the central government on Thursday asked the social media platform Twitter to take down the video.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh expressed anger over the video saying that the culprits will not be spared. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has given the Centre and state government time to take necessary measured to stop the violence.
As reported earlier, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud highly condemned the incident and called it ‘grossest constitutional violation.”
