Delhi EV policy ends today, Kejriwal govt to extend the policy?

New Delhi: Delhi Government is planning to implement E-Vehicle Policy 2.0. Delhi’s Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy, started in 2020 to enhance the usage of electrically operated vehicles in the national capital, is about to suspend today.

As per the official notification by the Delhi Transport Department, the validity of the policy from the beginning date – August 7, 2020, had been set to a period of three years, i.e., August 7, 2023.

E-Vehicle Policy, scheduled to end today is likely to be extended by the AAP-led Delhi Government. The idea comes after the Delhi government failed to finalise the new vehicle policy.

The vision of the EV policy

Arvind Kejriwal led government was focused on reaching 25 per cent registration of all new vehicle registrations for Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) by the year 2024. The main objective behind the adopted policy was to make sure of the reduction of the harmful emissions from the transport sector; improving Delhi’s air quality.

Did the policy manage to attain the intention?

As reported by the Hindustan Times, the government of Delhi has managed to accomplish its targets described in the EV policy 2020. In terms of figures, the Delhi government has massively attained the goal by 86 per cent of the targets. The figures depict that many people are opting for electric vehicles, which have impacted EV sales in a positive manner over the course of the last three years.

Wordings of the officials
