New Delhi: A British nurse has been convicted on Friday for killing seven babies and still conspiring to murder six more in the neonatal ward of the hospital where she was employed. This made the woman the worst baby killer in the country.
The culprit named Lucy Letby is 33 years old and her trial was on since October last year in the matter. She was accused of injecting air into sick, young and even premature children.
Along with this, she was charged of feeding excesive milk and poisoning them through insulin.
The Manchester Crown Court’s jury in the north of England pronounced the verdicts after contamplating over it for 22 days. The accused was held after a series of babies dying in the ward was observed between June 2015 and June 2016.
Lucy used a murder pattern that “leave no trace.” The prosecutor described her as a “calculating” woman due to her style of murdering infants.
In a statement, Crown prosecutor Pascale Jones informed that Lucy was held incharge of caring some of the most vulnerable infants in the ward. It may come as shocking but even those who were working with her did not have any clue regarding her dangerous activities that led to the death of 6 children.
Manipulated colleagues into thinking that it’s a bad luck
One of the collegues of Lucy noticed that Lucy was asssigned to the shift when the kids collapsed. When the matter was confronted to her, she made his colleuge believe that the series of baby dying is jsut a matter of bad luck.
The final victims of Lucy Letby were triplets whom the court referred as O and P.
As per the reports, one of the child died shortly after Lucy Letby came back from vacation in June 2016. Meanwhile, child P died a day after child O.
She was also accused of trying to kill a thid triplet but the jury could not decide. The prosecutor alleged that by that time, Lucy was out of control and she was really “playing god.”
Released Twice
The culprit was arrested two times earlier but was released later. However, in 2020. she was taken into the police custody. After searching inside her house, the police found hospital papers along with a handwritten note, in which, Lucy had admitted that she was the one to do this. It read. “I’m evil, I did this.”
Denying the claims, Lucy said that she wrote the latter when she was being assigned clerical duties following the deaths of the triplets. She said that her the decision to remove her from medical duty made her feel as if she had “done something wrong”.
Meanwhile her lawyer kept insisting that she was a hard-working and dedicated professional who love her job. He highlighted that the victims had poor health that led to their eventual deaths.
