Akhilesh Yadav is understanding this danger and that is why he wants to keep Congress with him and that too in those circumstances when the gap between Congress and him is very big.

It is also ironical that their issues were different in every election. It is in their nature to hold and release issues. This time he has described PDA as his Brahmastra. PDA means Backward Dalits and Minorities. He wants to cross the electoral hurdle by uniting these voters, but the ground situation is not such that these three can come together and join him. But this is an election and it is not right to make predictions in that.

Samajwadi Party is running in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections with the confidence that this time the elections will go in its favor and SP leaders also claim that now people’s inclination has increased towards Akhilesh Yadav. But SP has been making such claims earlier also and there is nothing new in it.

The question is which are the votes which this time the Samajwadi Party will get more than the previous elections, as far as the minority voters are concerned, they have been continuously going united with the Samajwadi Party.

Will have to make a dent in the vote bank of BJP and BSP

In the 2022 assembly elections, Muslim voters united strongly and in much greater numbers in percentage terms went in favor of the Samajwadi Party alliance. Its effect was also visible and SP reached 111 seats from 49 seats. But it was far from the destination.

A section of Dalit voters is still associated with Mayawati or Narendra Modi. BJP also has a deep hold among the backward classes. Therefore, if the Samajwadi Party alliance has to achieve major success in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, it will have to break into the vote bank of BJP and BSP and this is not easy.

In fact, in 2012, when Mulayam Singh Yadav was handing over power to his son Akhilesh Yadav, it was speculated that Uttar Pradesh was getting a young leadership and this leadership could play a long innings. But just two years later, when the Lok Sabha elections were held in 2014, the Samajwadi Party got only five seats, and four of them went to the Mulayam family.

This was a deep blow for the Samajwadi Party and from here Akhilesh Yadav started making all those efforts which could bring him success in the 2017 assembly elections. Even then the voice was raised that Mulayam Singh Yadav should once again take over the power of Uttar Pradesh. But Mulayam Singh Yadav refused.

SP emerged from internal strife

After all, that period also came when the internal discord seen in the Samajwadi Party was never seen in the Samajwadi Party. Akhilesh Yadav felt that he was being sidelined in the party. Angered, Akhilesh sidelined his uncle Shivpal Singh Yadav. Mulayam Singh Yadav took a strong stand on this but his views were ignored.

That day also came when in a convention in Lucknow, Mulayam Singh Yadav was removed from his post of president and Akhilesh Yadav himself became the president. These were difficult moments for SP. Supporters were confident that Akhilesh would lead the party strongly and lead it towards continuous victory. Despite this discord and resentment, Mulayam Singh Yadav kept giving advice to Akhilesh Yadav but it had no effect.

In the 2017 elections, despite Mulayam Singh Yadav’s unwillingness, Akhilesh Yadav compromised with Congress and gave it 103 assembly seats, much more than its ground strength. The alliance between SP and Congress failed and in the elections, SP had to be content with 49 seats and Congress with only 7 seats. These results were a cause of concern for SP.

2019 Lok Sabha elections were coming near and four by-elections were held in 2018, in which SP got huge success in the by-elections of Gorakhpur, Phulpur and Kairana and Noorpur assembly of Lok Sabha and SP captured all the seats. Akhilesh Yadav felt that the people of Uttar Pradesh were missing him and he would defeat BJP badly in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

When grievances were forgotten with Mayawati

Forgetting all the grievances, SP compromised with Mayawati on her terms. 24 years old enmity turned into friendship and Mayawati became Akhilesh Yadav’s aunt. Mayawati was also present on the stage along with Mulayam in a public meeting in Mainpuri. This was a historical event. Despite this, such a strong alliance which included Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and Rashtriya Lok Dal was badly defeated. This was the charisma of the Modi wave and even big political pundits could not assess that the Modi wave is so strong that it can uproot even such a strong alliance from the social point of view.

After the election results were declared, BSP supremo Mayawati, who had got ten Lok Sabha seats, accused SP chief Akhilesh Yadav of fraud and took a unilateral decision to break the alliance. Despite the alliance, Samajwadi Party got only five seats.

In the 2022 assembly elections, Akhilesh Yadav made a compromise with all the small parties of the state who had influence in their respective areas. Omprakash Rajbhar’s Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party Mahan Dal was also included in it. RLD already had an alliance with SP. Despite this, this alliance lost the elections.

Now 2024 has brought a new challenge. Akhilesh is creating Chakravyuh in Uttar Pradesh and Congress is also with him. But this fight is still difficult for Akhilesh. He is continuously making election tours. Has declared the names of many of his candidates. Despite this, SP supporters are also skeptical and they know that the winds are still not in their favour.
